News: Army Sets Up Video-Game Studio
Wired magazine reports that the U.S. Army has set up a video-game studio to write simulation software for a variety of armed forces and government projects. The studio, America's Army Government Applications, operates in North Carolina's Research Triangle with a staff of 15 video-game creators, simulation specialists and former military personnel. The studio was created following the success of a 3-D game the Army released in 2002 to boost recruitment called "America's Army"; which over 3.4 million people have registered to play. Besides working on a sequel to America's Army, the studio has been working with other developers and agencies (including West Point and the Secret Service) to create simulations and training software.
