WebbyConnect '08: Extra photographs

I'm out in the L.A. area, covering WebbyConnect. This is the first day of the conference, and I've already written three pieces for the Standard, which you can see here:
  • Sulzberger's seven "observations" for online media
  • The New York Times Co. claims 50 million unique online visitors in September
  • Sling says video portal will open to public in November
Besides writing about some of the panels and presentations, I also took a lot of photographs, and wanted to share some of the extras here.

The view from the Ritz. Catalina Island in the background, surfers catching the afternoon swells in the foreground. No, I usually don't stay in places like this:

Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel

Aaron Patzer, founder of Mint.com, and Xeni Jardin from BoingBoing at their panel on "Building an Overnight Web All-Star." Patzer has pretty strong ideas about UI and design which he has applied to his personal finance website, qualities that I think the big-name finance sites will be forced to recognize:

David Karp, Tumblr's founder. He created the site after getting fed up with the limitations of blogging:
